9 year old me would have really wanted Spacetalk’s latest smartwatch

9 year old me would have really wanted Spacetalk’s latest smartwatch

As someone who was 9 years old once upon a time and desperate for a Gecko, Firefly or TicTalk, I’m pretty sure that Spacetalk’s (ASX: SPA) Adventurer would have sent my primary school self a bit nuts.

Like a kid-on-red-cordial nuts.

The kids with the cool spy girl looking devices were the envy of my playground days and while I eventually got a Nokia from ALDI at 12 years old (that I expertly decorated with stickers), I never got over not having a Gecko… Or a tamagotchi.

Global tech provider of secure communication solutions, Spacetalk is the maker of today’s really cool kids with their Adventurer smartwatch.

The 4G smartphone watch is designed for kids aged 5-12. Allowing no access to the internet or social media and location tracking puts parents in control. The fitness tracking, messaging and rewards functions appeal to kids. The watch also includes school mode which stops use during specified times for distraction free learning.

The product launched in Australia in December 2020 and has demonstrated strong sales performance pushing it to become Spacetalk’s flagship product.

Since 2019 Spacetalk’s products have been sold in the UK by Sky UK Limited, Europe’s leading direct-to-consumer media and entertainment company.

Spacetalk has today announced that Sky will be commencing sales of the Adventurer smartwatch in their retail stores and online commencing in Q1 FY22.

Despite having no guaranteed or minimum level of revenue, the sale of Spacetalk products in Sky’s flagship stores is expected to have a direct positive impact on the total revenue of the Company.

CEO Mark Fortunatow said: “We are pleased to be expanding Spacetalk’s range across Sky’s UK shops and online. When Sky first launched Spacetalk’s original kids smartphone watch, in late 2019, sales were unfortunately impacted by the restrictions introduced to limit the spread of COVID-19.”

“Despite these challenges, we’ve seen the continued strong growth of Spacetalk in ANZ and the successful launch and uptake of Adventurer by consumers and new tier-1 telcos and mass market retailers; with both sales and after-market customer feedback outperforming every expectation. We are delighted to be bringing our products to even more consumers through our retail partnership with Sky.”

Spacetalk is planning on continuing their product development in line with their long term view to increase distribution. They currently sell three products; The Adventurer, The Kids, and Spacetalk Life, their offering for seniors with similar functionality to the kids range. All are currently available in major Australian retailers such as JB Hi-Fi and Officeworks.
