Amazon partner Scout Security hits Australian market

Although listed on the ASX, Scout Security (ASX: SCT) products aren’t accessible to Australians. Today, the Company is over the moon to announce that it will begin distributing its cameras nationwide via Amazon.com.au.

Marking this as the first step into the Australian market, the Company will launch its A$59.99 HD indoor and outdoor camera, which should be available through e-commerce giant Amazon by October 2022.

To incentivise customers into buying its security tech, Scout has included one month of free 14-day cloud storage, which will swiftly turn into a $5 per month charge at the end of their trial, where all subscription revenue will flow to Scout.

The camera will be able to integrate Amazon’s Alexa, where 2-way audio and a live video feed can be displayed and can be accessed via the Alexa app and any Alexa-enabled smart devices.

Additional camera features include automatic night vision, adjustable motion and sound sensitivity detection, adjustable video quality for low-speed internet connections, and recordable live clips with the camera’s live storage capabilities.

The most obvious selling point is that Scout aims to make its products as ‘lightweight’ as possible. The next-generation technology doesn’t require a security hub or any external sensors; unlike other setups that require a separate router that connects all devices, Scouts products connect via a standard Wifi connection, making it accessible to most Australian customers. The simple setup enables purchasers to build up their home security system over time with more tech and devices that can be implemented together to work in symphony, as long as they are a Scout product.

“The Scout HD indoor and outdoor camera is an incredible device, both functionally and design-wise, and runs on our state-of-the-art mobile application with Alexa integration. We believe the combination of features, price and functionality make our HD camera the best offer available in a competitive market,” said Scout CEO, Ryan McCall.

Amazon is a long-time partner of the Company, as they provide an avenue to different markets; in fact, Amazon is a Scout shareholder, so it would be in its interest to see Scout products flourish.

To secure its future in our country further, Scout has initiated conversations with several Australian VARs (value-added resellers) and ISPs (internet service providers) to bring its SaaS (Software-as-a-Service) platform into the country. According to today’s announcement, discussions will hopefully trend towards contract negotiations in the near future.

“The launch of our camera, in conjunction with our long-time partner and shareholder Amazon, is only the first step of our planned expansion into Australia. I expect the combined efforts of our US based team and Australian based Board members will soon lead to our full Security-as-a-Service solution launching in Australia with a local ISP or VAR partner.”

“With Australian investors having supported Scout through its Australian Stock Exchange listing now for more than five years, we are thrilled to announce that our shareholders, along with the broader Australian market, will soon be able to purchase some of our products locally.”
