Fluence secures first commercial SUBRE wastewater treatment order from China

Fluence Corporation (ASX: FLC) has advanced with a major inroad into the lucrative China wastewater market, securing a contract to deliver their proprietary SUBRE wastewater treatment system.

The contract was secured via Liaoning Huahong New Energy Co and will see the delivery of a 3,000 m3/day SUBRE system in Panjin, China and assist the Panjin City Government meet strict wastewater discharge standards.

Located in the north-east tip of China approximately 300km from the North Korea border, Panjin is a major oil production hub, but due to its geographic location, the prefecture sees wide weather fluctuations with the average temperature in January being -9°C compared to 25°C in July.

“This project is Fluence’s first commercial SUBRE installation in China and provides a key technology reference site in one of our core end markets,” said Fluence Managing Director & CEO Henry Charrabé.

“The technical requirements of this system were especially challenging given the range of ambient temperatures under which the system will operate, but our team was able to deliver a solution that can handle winter temperatures dropping as low as minus 20°C.

“Solving the technical challenges of the project’s ambient temperatures makes SUBRE ideally suited for the surrounding Liaoning, Jilin, and Heilongjiang provinces that experience similar weather extremes.”

Wastewater treatment in China is continuing to gather more attention via a combination of diminishing freshwater resources and higher Government regulations.

In recent years, China’s wastewater levels have contributed significantly to their pollution problems around industrial centres which prompted China President Xi Jinping to identify it as a national priority when re-elected in 2017.

“We are pleased to partner with Fluence after searching globally for innovative wastewater treatment technologies,” said Liaoning Huahong’s President, Ming Shi.

“We hope that this first project with Fluence will lead to additional opportunities in the future.”
