Even once we’re all vaccinated, the mass adoption of hand sanitiser availability is likely to stay for a while with Matrix Composites & Engineering (ASX: MCE) engaged by the West Australian Government to develop solar-powered bulk dispensers for public use.
The $1.5 million contract will see Matrix produce two prototypes for the bulk dispensers which will have smart technology functionality while promoting clean energy being powered by solar.
“I am delighted that the WA Government has selected Matrix to provide this innovative product, which we believe is the first of its type to be designed and manufactured in Australia,” said Matrix CEO Aaron Begley.
“It provides us with a fantastic opportunity to support the wider community whilst unlocking a significant new market opportunity for the Company.
“The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the importance of robust public hygiene practices to prevent the spread of dangerous viruses.”
Initially, prototype plans will be for just 10 SOLSAN units but with successful implementation, Matrix will look to produce the units at a commercial scale for government and private sectors.
Connected to 4G communications, each dispenser is expected to contain more than 10,000 dispenses before requiring a refill and will be operated entirely without any touch and constructed for immunity to extreme weather conditions.
Under terms of their contract with the WA Government, Matrix is expected to install the initial 10 SOLSAN units by the end of June 2021.
The solar-powered hand sanitiser contract comes just days after Matrix announced a $500k contract from resources giant Newcrest Mining (ASX: NCM) to develop a composite replacement for steel componentry within Newcrest’s block caving operations.
