Harvest Technology forms global alliance to promote resource sector wearable tech

Communications tech specialist Harvest Technology (ASX: HTG) has entered into a global marketing alliance with Inmarsat and Applied Satellite Technology Group to promote a wearable device that can be used for live transmission of data that will transform how remote sites in the resources industry are monitored. 

The development comes at a time when management of information flow from remote sites is more important than ever due to travel restrictions and sustainability challenges. 

Through the tripartite marketing alliance, the group will utilise Inmarsat’s global satellite communications, AST’s satellite and radio communications systems, and Harvest’s wireless streaming tech and terminals. 

Combining these capabilities, the alliance will promote a wearable device that can transmit high-quality synchronised video and audio over ultra-low bandwidth that would service resources, agriculture and utilities sectors while facilitating site surveys and conduct maintenance operations. 

“We are beyond thrilled to work with Inmarsat and AST to further strengthen the global reach of ultra-low-bandwidth remote communications,” said Harvest’s Managing Director, Paul Guilfoyle. 

“This alliance will not only allow for the implementation of existing technology but will further fuel innovation for future cutting-edge communication initiatives.” 

The device itself has already been developed as Harvest’s Infinity Wearwolf product which can be attached to a user’s helmet and then project live content in remote locations for viewing of thermal images over low bandwidths. 

“The energy, utilities and mining sectors have all harnessed the benefits of global satellite communications to maintain safe and efficient operations for a number of years,” said Steven Tompkins, Director of Sector Development at Inmarsat. 

“By developing a wearable solution that supports our High Data Rate (HDR) streaming capabilities across a low-bandwidth connection, Harvest is facilitating highly efficient, safe, cost-effective and sustainable site surveys of pipelines and valuable assets across industrial sites in remote areas around the world.” 

Since launching the Infinity product range globally in FY20, Harvest reported $11.7 million in sales revenue for the year, a significant increase from the $11,747 reported the year prior.
