Space tech and data company Kleos Space (ASX: KSS) is set to achieve something many competitors have failed to execute with the launch of nanosatellites into space which will open avenues to new revenues, driven by data collected and monitored from space.
The launch is targeted for the first half of November, pending weather conditions, with the Kleos team having arrived in Chennai and undergoing six days of quarantine before the commencement of launch preparations.
“We are immensely proud of the entire team, launching satellites is always a huge challenge and the COVID-19 pandemic has made logistics and travel even more difficult, their dedication to getting our Scouting Mission satellites into orbit and to collecting data in order to deliver enhanced situational awareness for our customers has been remarkable.” said Kleos Space CEO, Andy Bowyer.
Once launched into space, the nanosatellites will collect geographical data with the aim of guarding borders, protecting assets and saving lives by making their data commercially available and deliver Kleos with their first revenues.
The launch of these four nanosatellites had originally been planned for March 2020 however travel restrictions brought upon by COVID-19 delayed the launch until now.
Beyond this launch, plans are already underway to launch a second cluster of satellites mid-2021 to increase their collection capabilities and data-as-a-service offering to more customers.
Kleos’ objective is to own, launch and operate up to a maximum of 20 clusters of satellites , creating a constellation that provides critical coverage for monitoring global events and key locations of interest.
