Lack of footcare presents Podiatry as ‘hidden gem’ for healthcare investors

Section 1: The Market Research

A survey of 500 Australians from all across the country has identified an area of healthcare where Australians are not looking after themselves.

The findings identified a common trend amongst participants who were not aware of the services a podiatrist offered, despite experiencing pain in their lower legs and feet.

“It’s a common perception for people to think we just clip toenails and provide routine foot care for the elderly, but a podiatrist actually provides a range of medical assessments, procedures and services from the knee down from toddler years onwards,” said My FootDr Podiatrist and CEO Darren Stewart.

Prominent findings relating to foot-related pain included:

  •  51% of participants had claimed to purchase uncomfortable footwear where a higher priority was placed on style or affordability;
  •  45% of participants have some sort of foot pain after exercise;
  •  39% of participants admitted to not believing they had healthy feet;
  •  36% of participants woke up with foot pain at least once a week;

“You only get one pair of feet to keep you upright and mobile your whole life, and historically people have not given their feet a second thought until they are at crisis point and in a lot of pain.” Darren Stewart, MyFootDr CEO.
