Leading US drone company places second order for Mobilicom tech

Communications tech company Mobilicom (ASX: MOB) is continuing to captilise on a big push in the United States towards drone adoption with a second order received from a world leader in thermal imaging and threat detection.

The new order comes from FLIR (NASDAQ: FLIR) and is for additional units of Mobilicom’s SkyHopper Pro – a data-linking device which can be installed in drones and unmanned aerial systems (UAS) for long distance data transmission. This second order follows an initial one from FLIR placed in November 2020 which has already been integrated into FLIR’s existing fleet.

“We are really pleased to receive and deliver this follow-up order for FLIR, which validates that our technology meets the high standards set by this global leader,” said Mobilicom CEO, Oren Elkayam.

“With two orders in a relatively short timeframe, we look forward to integration and cooperation with FLIR as it increases its marketing and sales efforts of these new Mobilicom-enhanced drone systems to its growing customer base.”

While Mobilicom has not disclosed the total number of devices ordered or the value of the order, FLIR is rapidly moving in the drone sector having acquired UAS company Altavian last month. With that acquisition, FLIR has significantly extended its range of small UASs which have been approved by the US Department of Defence for use in their military and federal agencies.

For the 9 months ending 30 September 2020, Mobilicom reported $3.5m in cash receipts which represented a 19% increase from the previous corresponding period. The Company is expected to announce their full-year results in the coming week.
