Pointsbet partners with the Indiana Pacers in an NBA-first

Australian bookmaker Pointsbet (ASX: PBH) has secured valuable on-court and stadium advertising in the United States having been appointed the official sports gaming partner of the Indiana Pacers NBA team.

The multi-year agreement with Pacers Sports & Entertainment will enable Pointsbet to have it’s branding printed along the baseline of the Pacers’ home court in Downtown Indianapolis which will also be visible in the television broadcast of games to millions of screens around the world. This represents the first time a sports betting operator will occupy that space.

“Indiana represents a massive opportunity for PointsBet, and we will take a heavily localized approach to ensure we are delivering the best overall customer experience Indiana sports fans and bettors are seeking,” said Pointsbet USA CEO, Johnny Aitkin.

“We are very excited to bolster our presence within the Hoosier State and surrounding areas, as well as to Indiana Pacers fans around the globe via this unique partnership, working collaboratively with a first-class organization to enhance the NBA fan experience and excitement created within venue or watching at home.”

As part of the partnership, Pointsbet signage will also be prominently displayed throughout the Pacers’ stadium and online digital platforms.

Over the past 12 months, expansion through the United States has been a priority for Pointsbet where they have confirmed the locations of three new retail stores in Illinois where customers can register for Pointsbet accounts to complement their on-course shop at Hawthorne Racecourse in Chicago.

Despite shutdowns to the NBA, MLB and NHL during the COVID-19 pandemic, Pointsbet still reported active betting turnover from their US operations with $46.5 million bet by customers through the Quarter ending 30 June 2020, bringing their total FY20 turnover to $321m. More notably, Pointsbet now has more than 20,000 active clients in the US, adding to their 90,000 Australian clients.

Through the same FY20 period, Pointsbet reported $830m turnover from their Australian operations. Beyond the Indiana Pacers in the US, Pointsbet is also the Official Betting Partner of the Detroit Tigers in the MLB and was appointed as an Authorized Sports Betting Operator of the NBA earlier in the year.
