No social media, no internet, just a smartwatch enabled with a 4G phone, GPS and more to keep kids secure and reachable.
With working parents, keeping tabs on children at all times is just not possible. And while giving them a phone is a quick fix, it might also stunt their social growth. A sweet spot solution is a smartwatch that lets you track your children and allows them to reach out to you.
Children safety tech company Spacetalk (ASX: SPA) has unveiled the Adventurer 2, an all-in-one smartwatch, phone, and GPS safety device designed for children aged 5-12. The launch, effective from May 22, 2023, has seen positive engagement from key channel partners. And, it maintains its original price point of $349.
The Adventurer 2, designed and developed in Australia, offers a comprehensive solution for children to stay connected while incorporating additional parental controls and school mode, making it a safe and school-friendly alternative to a smartphone. Building upon the success of its predecessor, the Adventurer 1, the Adventurer 2 reflects enhancements driven by specific customer insights and feedback. These improvements include increased durability, enhanced comfort, and a sleek, clean watch face.
Through the Spacetalk app, parents can manage various settings on their child’s Adventurer 2 device, customize safety features, and access information such as location, mood, and activity levels. Furthermore, the Adventurer 2 is compatible with the charging stand, charger, and screen protector from the Adventurer 1, aiding in market penetration and model conversion.
Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Simon Crowther, said, “The launch of Adventurer 2 is an important step in continuing to innovate and improve our kids smartwatch and demonstrates our continued commitment to child and family safety. This is a key milestone as set out in our recently announced growth strategy.”
Crowther became CEO just a few months ago in February, following the unceremonious removal of former CEO Mark Fortunatow in November 2022. Since then, Spacetalk has kept a strong focus on customer satisfaction. Incorporating feedback from parents and children, the Company has made significant improvements to the Adventurer 2.
This enhanced version is now lighter and features a newly designed secure band, incorporating an upgraded buckle for improved comfort and durability, making it suitable for all-day use. Moreover, Spacetalk now offers user customization options through a selection of interchangeable colored straps, which can be purchased separately as after-market accessories.
The Adventurer 2 comes with Spacetalk’s own MVNO Jumpy SIM, which will be rebranded as Spacetalk SIM to align with the company’s central brand. The SIM includes affordable talk, text, and data plans specifically designed for the Adventurer 2, ensuring it is ready to use right out of the box. This approach helps Spacetalk build its subscription base, contributing to sustainable and recurring revenues while increasing customer lifetime value across a broader audience.
In addition to selling through key retailers and Spacetalk’s website, the Adventurer 2 will be available for purchase on Amazon. Marketing efforts will involve Google, Meta, and influencer channels to expand market awareness among Spacetalk’s target audience. Early demand for the Adventurer 2 from retailers, including JB Hi-Fi, Big W, Harvey Norman, and Officeworks, has been encouraging, resulting in solid sell-in to date.
Spacetalk is managing the sell-out of remaining Adventurer 1 inventory across channels and will provide updates on the demand for both Adventurer 1 and Adventurer 2 devices ahead of the release of their Q4 FY23 results in July.
