SportsHero launches Olahbola app to capitalise on Indonesia’s football fandom

With the resumption of major sporting codes finally being restarted following COVID-19 shutdowns, sports tech and media company SportsHero (ASX: SHO) is set to launch their fully localised international football app in Indonesia. The launch of their Olahbola app will provide the world’s 4th most populous nation to video content from top football leagues, English Premier League and La Liga.

Olahbola, the collective chant of Indonesian football crowds, will showcase football content in partnership with Dugout – a unique media company owned by 10 of the world’s biggest football clubs which attracts 40 million video views per month in football-fanatic Indonesia.

“Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic we have been diligently working to enhance our platform and to coincide the Olahbola launch with the resumption of major international football leagues,” said SportHero CEO, Tom Lapping.

“Olahbola presents SportsHero with a huge opportunity to connect with the millions of passionate football fans in Indonesia and to foster a dedicated group of Indonesian football followers through content engagement and gamification.”

The launch of the Olahbola app coincides with the resumption of EPL and La Liga which has a major following across Indonesia, and will offer fans a gamified experience alongside their interest in football. Beyond the news and video content available through the app, SportsHero has developed features which assist users to predict the outcome of matches, compete with other users on leaderboards and win prizes which include merchandise and ‘money can’t buy’ experiences.

As part of the previously agreed upon video content deal, Dugout will promote Olahbola themselves with a guarantee that the promotional video will be viewed at least 750,000 times per month in Indonesia.

While integrating news, video and gamification content together to engage Indonesian’s growing football fan masses, Olahbola will be a platform for advertisers to penetrate Indonesia’s 18 – 35yo demographic.

Beside the smartphone app, SportsHero has also launched a Bahasa language Olahbola web app where there are 130 million avid social media users in Indonesia, with 65 million people aged between 18 – 35.
