Demand for energy storage and grid stabilisation technologies is rising across Australia’s energy sector, driven by the transition to renewables, increasing rooftop solar, and the need to improve network reliability. Community battery systems are becoming increasingly important to support energy resources and enable more efficient electricity networks.
Synertec Corporation (ASX:SOP) has capitalised on this trend, securing a contract with TasNetworks to deliver six Powerhouse Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) solutions across Tasmania as part of the TasNetworks Community Battery Development Project. The program is supported by funding from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA). The project represents Synertec’s entry into the community and distribution-network battery sector and establishes TasNetworks as a new customer.

Expanding Powerhouse BESS Capabilities
Under the agreement, Synertec will design, manufacture, supply and commission six front-of-the-meter BESS units at selected locations across Tasmania’s distribution network. The systems will integrate advanced battery technology, power conversion systems and intelligent control architecture through Synertec’s Powerhouse platform.
Driving Growth Across Energy Networks
The project will enable TasNetworks to assess how community batteries can strengthen network reliability, increase capacity for rooftop solar, and support peak demand management. It will also provide insights into future electricity tariff structures and allow participation in energy markets through energy arbitrage opportunities.
Strengthening Position in Energy Storage Market
Synertec’s Powerhouse solution was selected due to its compact form, low noise profile and suitability for public environments, alongside its proven performance in remote Australian deployments. The contract reinforces Synertec’s strategy to expand into scalable energy storage solutions and build capability for broader deployment across Australia.
