With countries upping their warfare capabilities every day, companies like AI (artificial intelligence) defence solutions company DroneShield (ASX: DRO) get to expand their customer base. In fact, the Company has received an order worth nearly $1 million for several of its DroneSentry-X units for an international Government agency.
Full payment and shipment are expected to take place before this quarter ends. The $1 million is the upfront cost of the system. If the customer chooses to continue with the drones, it will include an additional amount to be received by DroneShield.
DroneSentry-X is a vehicle, ship or fixed-site counter-drone system that comes in either detect-only or detect-and-defeat variants. This unmanned aerial system is more defensive than offensive in that it aims to protect its user but not attack others. The current order is for the full detect-and-defeat variant of the system.
DroneShield CEO, Oleg Vornik, commented, “Small drones continue to demonstrate their
capability for surveillance, payload delivery and other nefarious uses in warfare, terrorism and
intelligence gathering operations. Combined with a general rise in global tensions and increasing uncertainty, we are seeing a number of our existing and new customers globally strengthen their security posture and accelerate counter-drone acquisition programs.”
The system includes AI-powered software with quarterly updates. DroneSentry-X’s recent upgrades include a 25% improvement in scan speed across DroneSentry-X® and RfOne® devices. In most cases, a full spectrum scan is completed in less than 1 second. An updated + Spectrum Recorder is now available on RfPatrol’s onboard display. It allows the operator to record signals of interest from a dismounted position.
Vornik added, “For this customer, it is an initial purchase that follows earlier trials and is expected to follow up with a number of additional systems to be acquired in 2023.”
This order follows several recent wins for DroneShield in the last couple of months. It was recommended by the Joint Counter-small Unmanned Aircraft Systems Office (JCO) for deployment across the US Department-of-Defence (DoD) bases within the Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) consortium.
Plus, it won a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) project for US DoD with Quantum Research International, an Alabama-based tech company. Besides that, it has gotten orders from the US Army and European Government customers. The Company is all set for its first US airport deployment and an appointment to the Australian Department of Defence Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance and Electronic Warfare Standing Offer Panel.
In late October, the Company also received an order worth US$900k from an Asian country allied with the West. The Company also had a profitable year as it was brought on to provide equipment for Ukraine’s military aid.
With the growing malicious use of drones, the Company expects the demand for counter drones to rise. By 2024, DroneShield believes that the industry will be a multi-million dollar one, bringing in more contracts.
