Acrux (ASX:ACR) is set to bring its transdermal Estradiol spray Lenzetto® to the Australian market after expanding its licensing agreement with long-term partner Gedeon Richter Plc. The move could deliver Acrux up to AUD 5.4 million in milestone payments over a set period.
The amended agreement comes at a critical time for Australian women, with shortages of Menopause Hormone Therapy (MHT) products affecting treatment access nationwide.
Under the revised deal, Acrux will receive upfront, regulatory and commercial milestone payments tied to Lenzetto®’s launch in Australia. The company said these milestone payments could reach total up to AUD 5.4 million and be received within two years from launch.
For Acrux Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director John Warmbrunn, the agreement delivers both healthcare and commercial benefits.
“The expansion of our existing licensing agreement with long-term partner Gedeon Richter paves the way for Acrux’s transdermal Estradiol spray Lenzetto® to deliver clear benefits to both Australian women and Acrux’s financials,” Mr Warmbrunn said.
Addressing a shortage in menopause hormone therapies
The Australian rollout of Lenzetto® is expected to help ease supply pressures affecting menopause treatments across the country.
Lenzetto® is a hormone replacement therapy (HRT) treatment used to relieve symptoms associated with oestrogen deficiency after menopause, which include hot flushes. The product delivers Estradiol through a transdermal spray, offering women an alternative treatment option amid growing demand for MHT products.
Mr Warmbrunn said getting the product into the local market had remained a major focus for the company.
“Getting this locally developed Estradiol spray into the hands of Australian women has been a key priority of ours for some time,” he said.
“The amended agreement with Richter means Australian women suffering oestrogen deficiency after menopause will soon have access to this HRT treatment.”
The treatment uses Acrux’s proprietary Patchless Patch™ technology, a drug delivery system invented at Monash University and designed to provide precise and consistent hormone delivery through a spray rather than patches or tablets.
Acrux Product Development and Technical Affairs Director Felicia Colagrande said the launch of the product in Australia represented an important milestone for women’s healthcare.
“I am so delighted that Acrux has been able to get our Lenzetto®, Patchless Patch™ into Australia,” Ms Colagrande said.
“It means Australian women will have a precise, consistent, discrete and easy to use option for their MHT.”
Building on global success
While Lenzetto® is new to Australia, the treatment already has a strong international presence. Developed by Acrux, the product is currently licensed to and marketed by Gedeon Richter in more than 40 countries worldwide.
The therapy, which generated sales of EUR 50 million in 2025, is leveraged to the growing global demand for menopause-related healthcare products.
Mr Warmbrunn said the expanded agreement would also strengthen Acrux financially as it continues developing future therapies.
“From a financial performance angle, the extended agreement is set to deliver Acrux additional milestone payments of up to AUD5.4 million over the coming years,” he said.
“These payments place Acrux in a strong position as the Company continues to work towards bringing its innovative Female Testosterone product to market.”
Strengthening a long-term partnership
The amended agreement also reinforces Acrux’s long-running relationship with Gedeon Richter, a large pharmaceutical company headquartered in Hungary, and boasting a strong focus on women’s healthcare and medical innovation.
For Acrux, the Australian expansion marks both a commercial opportunity and a chance to improve access to menopause care to Aussie women at a time of pressing need.
