Energy Technologies Acquires Maradin IP to Advance Laser Projection Commercialisation via Cogenic

Demand for advanced optical and projection technologies is increasing globally, driven by growth in Defence, Aerospace, and Extended Reality applications. As industries move toward more immersive and high-performance display solutions, technologies enabling precision projection, flexibility, and scalability are becoming increasingly important.

Energy Technologies (ASX:EGY) has capitalised on this trend, acquiring Maradin Ltd’s Laser Optical Engineering Intellectual Property (IP) portfolio through its wholly owned subsidiary, Cogenic. The transaction positions Cogenic as a late-stage developer in full laser projection optical engineering, with applications spanning smart glasses, Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, and Defence systems. Upon completion, Cogenic will hold 14 global patents alongside a fully operational development and technical team, strengthening its pathway toward commercialisation.

Advancing Laser Projection Capabilities

The acquired IP leverages Laser Beam Scanning, enabling large scanning angles with precise control. This allows projection of any image shape onto virtually any surface, including complex and non-flat environments, without compromising image quality. The “focus-free” nature of the technology enables projection from acute angles while maintaining sharpness, supporting next-generation applications including ultra-near eye and direct retina displays.

Positioned for High-Growth End Markets

The technology is designed for deployment across a range of high-growth sectors, including Defence, Aerospace, Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, Extended Reality, and lifestyle applications such as smart glasses. These markets continue to expand as demand increases for compact display solutions capable of operating across diverse environments.

Strengthening Development and Commercial Pathway

Cogenic’s CEO Matan Naftali will be in charge of coordinating the reorganisation and integration of Maradin’s development team, ensuring continuity in advancing the IP portfolio. The combination of established technical capability and a broadened patent base positions the Company to accelerate development and progress the technology toward commercialisation.

Structured Acquisition Funding

The acquisition, valued at approximately $0.95 million, will be funded under existing facilities through staged payments over an 18-month period. This structure supports disciplined capital management while enabling continued development and advancement of the technology platform.
