Australia’s mental health system continues to face rising demand, with nearly half the population expected to experience a mental health condition in their lifetime. Access to specialist care for complex conditions like treatment-resistant depression and PTSD remains limited, often constrained by cost and availability.
Emyria Limited (ASX:EMD) is targeting this gap by expanding insurer-backed treatment programs into the Australian state of Victoria for the first time, supported by Medibank Private Ltd.
Emyria Executive Chairman Greg Hutchinson said the move broadens access to care.
“We’re thrilled to extend our agreement with Medibank and bring our insurer-funded Empax programs to Victoria.”
Expands Insurer-Backed Care
Under the expanded funding agreement, eligible Medibank customers will be able to access Emyria’s psychiatrist-led programs for treatment-resistant depression (TRD) and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
These services will be delivered through the company’s new Mornington Peninsula clinic in Victoria.
The agreement builds on an existing multi-year arrangement between the two organisations.
Targets Access Barriers
Emyria’s Empax model integrates psychotherapy-based care within licensed hospital settings, supported by private health insurance funding.
The approach is designed to reduce out-of-pocket costs for patients with complex mental health needs.
By embedding insurer funding into treatment delivery, the model aims to address longstanding affordability challenges.
Builds National Footprint
The Mornington Peninsula clinic marks Emyria’s first insurer-backed program in Victoria, adding to existing operations in Western Australia and Queensland.
The company expects operations to commence in the second quarter of calendar 2026, with staffing and regulatory processes already underway.
Supports Evidence-Based Model
The expansion follows the release of positive 12-month data demonstrating sustained patient improvements in Emyria’s PTSD program.
The company’s model combines clinical delivery with ongoing data collection, generating real-world evidence to refine treatment protocols.
Each treatment pathway contributes to a growing dataset aimed at improving outcomes and supporting partnerships with insurers and hospitals.
Positions Emyria for Further Growth
Emyria continues to assess opportunities to expand its Empax Centres across additional regions, working with hospital operators and insurers.
The company sees increasing demand for measurable, outcomes-driven mental health care as a key driver of future growth.
