High school dropout blames coronavirus for lack of job opportunities

Although it seems entirely out of his control, high school leaver Mac McDonald could not have asked for a worse time for coronavirus to be spreading, significantly hampering his employment prospects having been on the cusp of employment for the past 12 months.

It continues an unlucky run for the teenager who elected to leave school at the conclusion of Year 10 when he thought he would be more valuable to society by entering the workforce.

“I’ve been applying for jobs, you know. There’s been a few times that I have gone to interviews but each time, they tell me that my skills are valuable but that there’s just more suitable candidates,” said McDonald.

“This virus is destroying tourism in Australia so I’m sure if we didn’t have it, I’d have a job by now.”

When asked what jobs McDonald had applied for, the teenager may have overrated his qualifications.

“You know, those ones they advertise on Seek with $100k sallaries. I’d have one of those if it wasn’t for this virus spreading.”
