A group of reality television lovers have slammed Channel 7 for their lack of promotion around the The Voice which launched last night, claiming they were never notified of the new season.
Leader of the group Television for Reality And Social Heroes (TRASH), Martina Martinez was particularly scathing of the network’s owner Seven West Media (ASX: SWM) for their missed opportunity to promote The Voice throughout the Tokyo 2020 Olympics broadcast.
“Channel 7 had the nation’s eyes glued to their broadcast for the past two weeks which would have been the perfect opportunity to promote The Voice and their expert panel of judges,” said Martinez.
“With such talented celebrities to promote, they could have had so many more people tune into last night’s season launch if they just advertised it a bit more through the Olympics.”
Disappointed, Martinez only learned the following morning when reading about it in the newspaper that Channel 7 had secured Keith Urban, Jessica Mauboy, Guy Sebastion and Rita Ora for the newest season of the reality singing competition.
Positioned in Channel 7’s lineup to launch just before the Tokyo 2020 Closing Ceremony, Martinez was not one of the 1.32 million metro viewers that tuned in, despite watching the Olympics religiously over the past fortnight.
Asked how other networks might learn from Channel 7’s promotional failings, she applauded Network 10 for engaging TRASH in their promotion of The Bachelor.
